A DASH OF SPEED IN COLLEGE RUNNERS.(SPORTS)

Athlete of week:

George Washington University junior Darrell Andruski has been named Colonial Athlete of the Week after finishing 16th in a field of 125 runners in the Navy Invitational recently in Annapolis, Md. Andruski of Clifton Park (Shenendehowa High) recorded a 25:43 clocking over the 8K course. It was the fastest time for a George Washington runner since 1999.

Andruski followed up that effort by finishing ninth out of 85 runners in the Mount St. Mary's Invitational this past weekend in Emmitsburg, Md. His time was 26:29.26.

Last season as a sophomore, Andruski finished 76th out of 196 runners in the NCAA Regionals in Lehigh, Pa.

Andruski and his teammates will be in action in the George Washington Invitational Saturday in Centerville, Va.

Sweeney's big start:

Freshman Jamie Sweeney of Saratoga Springs (Saratoga Springs High) is off to a great start with the University of Rhode Island women's cross country team.

Sweeney finished 12th and helped her team finish second …
